Position: Molecular Biology Associate - CRISPR Cures Technology Core (9613C) 86345

The Innovative Genomics Institute is a joint effort between UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco. The IGI focuses on genome engineering research and public outreach.

Position Summary

The SRA assists researchers in the CRISPR Cures Technology Core to establish a next‑generation sequencing protocol to capture both DNA and RNA information from human cells.

Responsibilities
  • Perform PCR from genomic DNA or cDNA to amplify target genes
  • Prepare next‑generation sequencing libraries to sequence the amplified genes or gene products
  • Extract DNA and RNA from cultured human cells
  • Culture human cell lines
  • Analyze next‑generation sequencing data to identify mutations and quantify gene expression
Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency in maintaining mammalian tissue culture cells and delivering nucleic acids using electroporation or lipid‑based methods
  • Experience with kit‑based isolation of DNA and RNA from mammalian tissue culture cells
  • Proficiency with end‑to‑end PCR, including primer design, reaction setup, and optimization in a multiwell format
  • Skilled in agarose gel electrophoresis and PAGE for PCR product characterization
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field, or equivalent experience/training
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with library preparation for next‑generation sequencing
Salary & Benefits
  • Estimated hourly range: $28.69 – $34.22
  • Non‑exempt, bi‑weekly paid position
  • Full‑time (40 hours/week) career position eligible for full UC benefits
