Research Assistant/Associate, Data Scientist
Position Summary
At the University of California, Berkeley, this role serves as a key coordinator for the Social Origins Lab led by Professor Jan Engelmann. Responsibilities include managing research personnel, organizing lab meetings, and supporting the lab's general administrative and social needs. The position also provides essential support for laboratory research by conducting experiments, interpreting data, and assisting with scientific writing and grant protocols.

Responsibilities- Assist in overseeing research experiments from start to finish, including recruitment, scheduling, preparation, execution, and accurate data collection.
- Run behavioral and EEG experiments and gather experimental data.
- Assist with data analysis and maintain organized data records (digital and paper) in accordance with laboratory standards.
- Organize lab meetings and occasional lab social events.
- Provide training to undergraduate research assistants on laboratory tasks and techniques such as EEG and data analyses.
- Coordinate undergraduate research assistants' lab tasks and ensure regulatory compliance regarding safety.
- Collaboratively write and/or edit IRB protocols, grants, and scientific reports as needed.
- May contribute to articles for publication in scientific journals or presentations at conferences.
- Consult with academic supervisors or professional researchers on project objectives or instructional design goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of behavioral and EEG experiment design, human data organization, experimental coding, and data analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse community.
- Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques.
- Solid written and communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in a related area (e.g., Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least one year of demonstrated research experience or equivalent training/experience.
- Familiarity with cognitive science or cognitive neuroscience literature.
- Advanced and highly specific knowledge and expertise associated with conducting and reporting on scientific research experiments and findings.
- Strong abilities to conduct and report on scientific experiments and findings.
- Advanced knowledge of research discipline or instructional design to collaborate effectively with faculty and serve as a resource to research and instructional associates.
This is a part-time (20 hours per week) career position. The position is eligible for full UC benefits, with an hourly range of $28.69–$34.22 (stepped rates).
