Salary range:
The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step  the following table(s) for the current salary scale(s) for this position:
Salary Scale. The current full-time base salary range for this position is $79,400-$101,100. "Off-scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Percent time: 50%

Anticipated start:
Fall 2026

Position duration:
One year with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Position description

The Beery Lab is a research group in the Department of Integrative Biology and Neuroscience departments focused on the study of group social behavior and peer social relationships. Our lab studies the brain basis of behavior, integrating ecological, evolutionary and neuroscience perspectives in this work. Our primary research is focused on the neurobiological mechanisms supporting "sociality", a.k.a. life in social groups—using diverse species to assess the universality of specific underlying pathways.

Position Responsibilities:

1) Support implementation of techniques in the lab including fiber photometry and machine learning approaches to animal tracking (e.g. SLEAP),
2) Participate in all phases of research (planning, data collection, data analysis, writing, etc.) for one or more projects on group social behavior,
3) Participate in writing and providing feedback on funding proposals and manuscripts,
4) Participate in project meetings and assist with project oversight.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
PhD degree (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD degree program (or equivalent international degree).

Additional qualifications (required at time of start):
PhD degree (or equivalent international degree). At least 2 years of research experience post-PhD. Publication record in circuit/systems/behavioral neuroscience.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience conducting research with rodents including surgical procedures. Experience with in vivo imaging techniques. Experience with rodent behavioral testing. Experience working on oxytocin signaling is preferred.
