Position Summary

Prevention Research Center (PRC; prev.org) is a National Alcohol Research Center based in Berkeley, CA. It is part of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) and is funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. PRC and PIRE focus on designing and implementing complex program evaluation strategies and conducting research related to health and social issues, including prevention, treatment, and policy research in health, mental health, substance use, child welfare, education, criminal justice, and public policy.

Responsibilities

Mid‑career investigators and evaluators are expected to develop their own research programs while collaborating with other PIRE scientists in areas of mutual interest. Successful applicants will be responsible for seeking and securing independent funding, preparing grant and proposal applications, and contributing to the PIRE research portfolio. Current or recent funding from NIH, SAMHSA, or other federal or state agencies is desired but not required.

PIRE will provide support for startup funding, mentorship, administrative assistance, and collaborative scientific support. Employment is contingent upon successful awards.

Qualifications / Experience
  • Advanced degree (e.g., M.D., Ph.D., J.D.) or equivalent experience
  • At least five years of experience in a relevant professional research environment
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop a research program
  • Established record of obtaining peer‑reviewed funding alone or in collaboration with others
  • The ability to work for any U.S. employer
