The General Hardware Salesperson sells hardware, including, but not limited to, nails, bolts, screws, hand and power tools, electrical equipment, plumbing supplies, paint, and pipe products such as ABS, PVC, ADS pipes and fittings. A working knowledge of all kinds of hardware products with an emphasis on Baldwin, Emtek, and Specialty Hardware is required for this position. Attention to detail and quality customer service skills are essential to the performance of this job.
Being able to effectively communicate with customers and coworkers is also essential. Applicant must be team oriented and be able to work well with others. The applicant should expect to be on their feet for most of the day, and while this job requires mostly indoor work, it can be physically demanding. Applicants should be capable of lifting packages in the 25–50 pound range and be able to bend down to reach products on the lower shelves as well as reach up to products on the higher shelves.
Responsibilities and Competencies
- Provide exemplary customer service; interact with customers on a daily basis in a professional, courteous, and friendly manner.
- Prepare sales slips.
- Retrieve merchandise from the stockroom.
- Advise customers on products that fit their needs for specific projects.
- Stock and maintain items on shelves.
- Think quickly and come up with creative solutions to customer concerns or questions.
- Demonstrate exemplary communication skills; bilingual is not necessary, but is a plus.
