D. Rockefeller, Jr., International House is a self‑supporting, not‑for‑profit, residential, and community‑oriented facility located at the foothills of the University of California Berkeley Campus. Since its founding, International House has housed more than 95,000 residents including two Governors of California, eight Nobel Prize laureates, civil rights, and free speech advocates, ambassadors, business leaders, and royalty…just to name a few.

Each year I‑House provides some 1,100 students and scholars from 75+ nationalities (including the USA) with an opportunity to live and learn together in an inclusive and safe environment, over the course of a typical 12‑month cycle. Along with room and board, I‑House strives to augment and expand the impact of the residential life experience by encouraging lifetime personal and professional connections that transform lives and offer skills that enrich and enhance career opportunities.

Programs Coordinator

The Resident Life and Intercultural Development Office (RIO) plans and executes a year‑round residential program designed to foster cultural intelligence (CQ), intercultural learning, and leadership development within the International House community.

The Programs Coordinator plays a key role in bringing this vision to life through hands‑on program planning, execution, and resident support. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Resident Engagement, this position supports the design and delivery of large‑scale signature events, ongoing social and educational programming, and resident‑initiated initiatives. The Programs Coordinator also trains, supervises, and advises student workers and resident leaders, contributing directly to a vibrant and inclusive residential experience.

This position requires regular evening and weekend availability to support programs and events.

Key Responsibilities Program Planning and Execution – 60%

Serve as a core contributor to the planning and delivery of I‑House programming—from concept through execution—including signature events (e.g., Weekly Coffee Hours, Festival of Cultures, Sunday Suppers), social and community‑building activities (movie nights, hikes, sports, talks), and resident‑initiated events.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Manage program logistics, timelines, and operational details within established budgets and timelines
  • Support monitoring, ordering, and maintaining program supplies and storage organization
  • Coordinate event setup and breakdown in collaboration with other internal I‑House departments
  • Support event marketing and promotion in coordination with marketing communications team
  • Support management of event registration processes and vendor coordination
  • Collaborate with internal I‑House departments to ensure smooth program delivery
  • Oversee resident‑initiated events from proposal review through execution
  • Advise residents on event planning best practices, policies, and procedures
  • Assist in cultivating strategic partnerships with internal and external campus stakeholders
  • Support the supervision and day‑to‑day work of student staff
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing skill development of student staff
  • Support coordination of work schedules, assignments, and project timelines
  • Provide guidance and support to resident leaders as they plan and execute programs
Resident Research, Assessment & Evaluation – 10%
  • Assist with assessment and evaluation of resident programming and engagement
  • Support data collection, analysis, and reflection to inform future programming
  • Contribute insights related to resident needs, interests, and intercultural engagement
Knowledge & Skills
