Firmware Test Engineer

Contract-to-hire Pay Range: $60-65/hr Mission:
Design and execute verification tests for company’s BMS software, using both Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop environments. Responsibilities:
Translate product requirements into detailed verification tests managed in Jama. Select the appropriate SIL or HIL test strategy for each requirement. Develop and automate test cases using Python and pytest. Verify overall BMS software performance, safety, and reliability. Identify firmware bugs early in the release cycle through systematic testing. Debug complex embedded systems and isolate issues across software and physical electrical hardware.

Collaborate with Firmware, Systems, and Hardware teams to improve test coverage and accelerate releases. Document test results, defects, and requirements traceability. Must-Haves:
Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience. Demonstrated experience with Python and pytest for automated testing. Experience testing and debugging embedded software or firmware. Hands-on experience with embedded communication protocols, particularly CAN. Experience working in HIL environments. Strong electrical hardware debugging experience. Ability to read electrical schematics. Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electrical test equipment.

Ability to isolate root causes across software logic and physical hardware. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proactive, hands-on approach with strong personal initiative and collaborative problem-solving skills. Nice-to-Haves:

Experience with both HIL and SIL testing. Battery Management System or energy-storage experience. Jama or comparable requirements-management experience. Experience verifying safety-critical embedded systems. Additional protocol experience with SPI, UART, I2C, or Ethernet. Experience integrating automated firmware tests into CI/CD pipelines.
