The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Aquatics Specialist I in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide instruction in swim and serve as a lifeguard at assigned swimming facilities. You'll teach lower swim levels and perform customer service functions.

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school or current enrollment in an institution working toward a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must be 15 years of age. Must possess and maintain a current American Red Cross Lifeguard training certificate and current American Red Cross CPR for professional rescuer certificate or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Provide swim instruction and act as lifeguard at assigned facilities. Teach lower swim levels and perform customer service functions.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 15 years of age.
  • Graduation from high school or current enrollment toward a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard training certificate.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for professional rescuer certificate or equivalent.
Exam Process

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:

  • Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents (qualifying experience will be calculated based on the administrative review date)
  • Review of Supplemental Questionnaire
  • Tests may consist of any combination, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification.
  • Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
