Location:St. Louis, MO
DescriptionThe CEI will oversee and monitor infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with contract specifications, design plans, and regulatory standards. This role involves acting as the primary on‑site representative for the project owner, collaborating with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to facilitate successful project completion.
Your Primary Responsibilities will include- Inspect construction activities related to water distribution systems, including water main installation, replacement, and rehabilitation
- Verify contractor work complies with project plans, specifications, permits, and local/state standards
- Perform field inspections for trenching, bedding, pipe installation, jointing, backfill, compaction, and surface restoration
- Observe and document pressure testing, leakage testing, flushing, and disinfection of water mains
- Coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineers, and utility representatives to resolve field issues
- Maintain accurate daily inspection reports, quantities, photos, and as‑built documentation
- Track material deliveries and verify materials meet approved submittals and specifications
- Identify non‑conforming work and assist with corrective actions and punch list items
- Monitor site safety and ensure compliance with OSHA and project safety requirements
- Support project closeout activities, including final inspections and documentation review
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or technical training in construction, civil engineering, or related field preferred
- 2+ years of construction inspection experience, with a strong focus on linear utility or water/wastewater projects
- Working knowledge of water main construction methods, materials, and testing procedures
- Familiarity with industry standards such as AWWA, ASTM, and local utility requirements
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Experience preparing field reports, quantity tracking, and documentation
- Strong communication skills for interaction with contractors and project teams
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Certifications such as NICET, ACI, or state DOT/municipal inspection certifications preferred (or ability to obtain)
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (MS Excel, Word, inspection or field reporting software)
