Therapeutic Service Worker/Gardener (Part‑Time)
St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center – North and South Campuses
5351 Delmar Blvd. St. Louis, MO. 63112 and 5300 Arsenal St. St. Louis, MO. 63139
Hours/days are flexible within 7:30am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Hourly Rate: $17.38. Total per week needed is 10 - 19.5 hours.
Description- Main responsibilities include maintaining the several gardens and indoor plants at FTC‑S and FTC‑N, working with the Central Activity Therapy and Client Work Program staff, and supervising, instructing, and teaching client workers.
- Demonstrate compassion and an ability to work in a trauma informed and recovery‑based environment.
- Demonstrate professional behavior to encourage and maintain a respectful and positive work environment for clients and provide education to clients on related topics when needed.
- Creatively problem solve and think critically through difficult situations to form insightful strategies and to accomplish goals.
- Work independently and prioritize their time and responsibilities effectively.
- Demonstrate an understanding of FTC and DMH policies and how CWP contributes to the facility’s mission.
- Communicate effectively in person and electronically.
- Document accurately and with clinical insight about client behavior.
- Maintain and care for the outdoor flower and vegetable gardens, the greenhouse, and the indoor plants: planting, watering, pruning, applying fertilizers and pesticides, ensuring the garden’s overall health and appearance, planning plant selection and placement, etc.
- Maintain the storage and use of gardening equipment, ensuring safe and proper use.
- Maintain an equipment record and request new materials and tools as needed.
- Collaborate with CAT and CWP staff to integrate the garden and/or produce in events, activities, or lessons.
- Supervise and instruct client workers to increase vocational skills and to foster engagement and environmental awareness.
- Report weekly on progress, production, and maintenance needs.
- Write clinical notes about client interactions, groups, and work hours.
- Two years of experience in gardening, landscaping, or closely related work.
- Two years of experience in the mental health field or closely related work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and the public.
- Ability to complete assignments accurately within specified time frames.
