Job Description

The Computer Operator‑Senior is responsible for daily computer systems operations and accurate processing of information through the computer systems. This position sets up new user accounts on the iSeries (AS400), alters and troubleshoots current iSeries accounts, and configures non‑employee, contracted employees and students for Physician Tandem, HELP2, internet access, and group mailboxes in Active Directory.

Video interview via Microsoft Teams is required, along with potential onsite interviews and meetings.

We are currently not considering candidates who reside in California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.

Job Essentials
  • Maintains an appropriate work environment and cleans the hardware in the Operations room; develops and follows preventive maintenance routines.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records during the shift (e.g., problem documentation, computer utilization logs, file identification) that supplement the console log.
  • Operates the facility computers so that all requested processing is completed accurately and timely.
  • Generates accurate and timely reports, some regularly and others as needed or requested by user departments.
  • Performs backups of system files and software according to department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains adequate inventory levels of operating supplies such as stock paper, toner, diskettes, printer ribbons, etc.
  • Acts as a technical resource for the operation of a single computer system and provides training to other computer operators.
  • Interprets system error messages and troubleshoots system interface problems (e.g., IBM to Tandem). Works with users to solve basic peripheral equipment problems and facilitates system functions affecting end users.
  • Sets up computer access for all non‑employees and contracted workers with Tandem, HELP2, internet access, user accounts for email/group email, Windows IM and Wireless Office.
  • Maintains group email accounts in Active Directory and maintains accurate and complete records of all user setups.

    Provides Telecom support, setup and troubleshooting pagers for users.

    Communicates status and concerns of projects with supervisor and all interested groups.

    Job Specific
    • The schedule is Graveyard Shift, Monday – Friday 7pm to 3am.
    • This position is 100% remote.
    Minimum Qualifications

    Four years of experience or training with IBM iSeries, Tandem, or comparable computer systems.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Demonstrated ability to perform project tasks as directed.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.
    • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
    • Experience working in a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.
    • Operate computers and other IT equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
    • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
