Overview

Now in its eleventh year, the mission of the Tennessee Williams Festival St. Louis is to enrich the culturallife of St. Louis by producing an annual theater festival and other artisticand educational events that celebrate the art and influence of Tennessee Williams.

Job Title: Managing Director

Reports to: Executive Artistic Director

Location: St. Louis, MO office; hybrid schedule

Position Type: Full-time; hybrid

Compensation: $45,000-$55,000 annual salary range.

Essential Function: Works closely with the Executive Artistic Director to oversee all operational aspects of the festival throughout the year.

Main Responsibilities
  • Financial management
    • Plans and manages the annual budget (in conjunction with board treasurer).
    • Oversees financial accounting, including payment of bills and depositing of revenues.
    • Manages contracts and documentation regarding venues, licensing of rights, renting and purchase of equipment and insurance, as well as regarding all personnel, including actors, creative and technical staff, and panelists.
    • Assures that box office is properly staffed and managed.
    • Manages all arrangements with ticket services agency (currently Metro Tix).
  • Communications
    • Maintains Constant Contact database and (in close collaboration with the Executive Artistic Director) sends regular messages to it.
    • Oversees operational aspects of publicity and printing, serving as liaison with the various vendors.
    • Ensures that the website is always up to date and richly informative.
    • Maintains style sheet.
  • Fundraising
    • Tracks grants, does grant-writing and grant follow-up paperwork, seeks new grant opportunities.
    • Tracks institutional donations, seeks new institutional opportunities.
    • Tracks donors and prospects (using appropriate software).
    • Writes prompt thank you notes and provides tax letters to donors.
    • Works with board and Executive Artistic Director to plan and execute donor strategies.
    • Plans special events.
    • Oversees program ad sales.
    • Tracks in-kind gifts.
    • Organizes and manages the Young Professionals Board
  • Programs
    • Coordinates play reading initiative.
    • Coordinates new playwright initiative.
    • Recruits and coordinates volunteers.
    • Coordinates housing and transportation for out of towners during festival.
  • Governance
    • Coordinates quarterly board meetings; supports Executive Artistic Director and Board President in tracking and recruiting board prospects, engaging board members in various committees, ensuring board members understand and sign annual roles/responsibilities document, and maintaining 100% level of board financial contributions.
    • Maintains records of board meetings and current versions of by-laws, board roles and responsibilities, articles of incorporation, and other key documents.
