Overview

Division 2100 is a fast-paced high-risk cardiology division at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. We care for a variety of cardiology patients including congestive heart failure, left ventricular assist devices, post-cardiac device implantation, and post EP and Stent procedures. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team, using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients' status.

The Staff Nurse (RN) must be certified in BLS and obtain ACLS certification within 1 year of working on the division.

Additional Information About the Role

This unit provides the opportunity to care for acute conditions, titrate high-risk drips, and care for patients requiring continuous telemetry. Our registered nurses receive additional training to give them the knowledge and tools to succeed, including ECG class, acute care class, LVAD training and ACLS certification.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient- and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and patient/family or caregiver, following established guidelines and standards. Proactively communicates the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Assesses and evaluates physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care; recognizes patient preferences, barriers to involvement, and cultural, spiritual, and population-specific needs.
  • Recognizes this is a safety-sensitive position and maintains a constant state of alertness as an essential function of the job.
