Responsibilities

Heartland Behavioral Health has been providing care for children and adolescents for over 100 years in Nevada, Missouri. We treat male and female patients ages 4 through 17 in acute and residential programs for conditions ranging from depression, anxiety and other mood disorders to recovering from a traumatic event. All of our programs have been designed and tailored to help our patients grow and prosper.

Heartland programs are provided with a focus on Trauma Informed Care.

Heartland is nestled within 50 secluded acres in Nevada, Missouri, providing the perfect rural area setting for our residents to heal and grow. A reprieve from everyday life, our peaceful environment allows residents to return to the basics and reconnect with themselves and others. We also offer leisure activities, such as baseball, basketball and an equestrian program, that allow children and adolescents to enjoy themselves while building self‑confidence, trust and teamwork.

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a diploma or an associate degree, B.S.N. preferred.
• Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of Missouri.
• Knowledge of Professional Nursing.
• Advanced knowledge of adolescent and child behaviors and knowledge of nursing interventions that are appropriate for the treatment of children and adolescents in need of psychiatric care.
• Experience in the psychiatric treatment of children and an adolescent is preferred.
• Adolescents:
  • Knowledge of: adolescents programs; adolescent growth and development, developmental tasks ages 13‑18; use of natural and logical consequences of behavior; providing therapeutic seclusion and/or restraints without aversive or punitive measures; understanding of skills development processes, modeling, feedback, opportunities for practice of skills and transference to other experiences.
• Pre‑Adolescents:
  • Knowledge of: pre‑adolescents program; adolescent growth and development, developmental tasks ages 3‑12; 1‑2‑3:
    Magic! procedures; proper techniques for assisting with hygiene and ADLs; understanding benefits of positive reinforcement for appropriate behaviors.
