Overview
Perform a combination of duties under the direction of a nurse or physician to assist in the examination and treatment of patients. Checks and records patients' vital signs. Draws blood and conducts other laboratory tests. Administers immunizations as ordered by the providers. Assists physicians in patient examinations by organizing and arranging instruments, leading patients into examination rooms, and holding children during examinations.
Gathers and documents medical histories of patients. Performs EKGs. Maintains inventory of supplies, ensuring availability, and assures proper organization of instruments and examination rooms. Completes routine medical records and reports, provides basic patient information and instruction, and performs other routine tasks under the direction of the RN to assist in provision of good patient care. Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of supplies received by the clinic;
contacts patients to reschedule missed appointments. Provides patient education to promote wellness and maintain/improve health.
- Assist physicians in examinations by organizing instruments, leading patients into rooms, and checking vital signs.
- Collect and test specimens of body fluids and wastes to advise physician of possible conditions.
- Prepare instruments for sterilization and operate in‑house sterilization equipment.
- Complete routine medical records and reports, provide basic patient information and instruction, and perform other routine tasks to assist in patient care.
- Contact patients to reschedule missed appointments and stress importance of adherence to medical guidelines for communicable diseases.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- At least 6 months to 1 year of experience in OB/GYN and adult medicine.
- Completion of a one‑year training program at an accredited school for Medical Assistant.
