Substation Electrician – Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS)

We are looking for a journey‑level Substation Electrician to support manufacturing areas in Berkeley and Hazelwood, MO. You will install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair substation equipment including circuit breakers, transformers, and protection devices at low, medium, and high voltage levels. You will also maintain SCADA systems, PLC functions, insulating oil, and computer‑based controls, as well as perform high‑voltage switching operations.

Responsibilities
  • Install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair protective relays, regulator control devices, and power transformer protective/equipment.
  • Maintain, test, repair 4160V, 12kV and 34kV power circuit breakers; perform periodic trip testing.
  • Maintain, test, and repair 115V, 4kV, 12kV, 34kV power transformers and ATS systems.
  • Sample, test, and evaluate insulating oil and other media; maintain records including DGA and dielectric test.
  • Troubleshoot and repair SCADA systems, transducers, input devices, and communication equipment.
  • Perform high‑voltage substation switching operations and fault locating of underground cable systems.
  • Assist with design, programming, installation and maintenance of PLC functions.
  • Conduct infrared scanning of substation transmission/distribution equipment.
  • Maintain accurate work records and read/write electrical drawings and diagrams.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of an accredited trade school or apprenticeship program.
  • Experience with solid‑state circuitry, computer‑based test equipment, control and monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of power distribution substations, SCADA systems, and digital solid‑state equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical codes (NFPA 70E, OSHA, etc.) and bench test equipment (TTR, Megger, AC/DC Hipot).
  • Ability to operate a high‑voltage switch gear, climb tower, and use aerial lift.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to handle multiple priorities, and maintain accurate records.
Working Conditions /

Physical Requirements
  • On‑site work at listed locations; travel between sites.
  • Exposure to high voltage (up to 34,500V), heights, and hazardous conditions.
  • Must be able to lift, climb, and operate in confined spaces; move components up to 70lb.
  • Ability to communicate orally and via radio/telephone.
Security & Eligibility
  • Must be U.S. citizen and able to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance (interim or final).
  • Position requires U.S. citizenship for security clearance.
