Position Overview
Lead Software Engineer, Phantom Works at Boeing located in Berkeley, Missouri, with potential to work from other U.S. locations. Focus on the BDS business organization and part of the OASIS Solutions team. Responsible for defining, developing, and leading real‑time software for air and/or space systems in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities- Own and maintain software architecture, focusing on interface clarity, stability, and versioning.
- Create and enforce system and software requirements, ensuring traceability from requirements to design, code, and test artifacts.
- Manage supplier/subcontractor deliverables to meet integration requirements.
- Lead the team’s Agile delivery: facilitate planning, stand‑ups, reviews, retrospectives, backlog prioritization, and sprint goal setting.
- Define, document, and enforce integration contracts, data models, and message definitions in coordination with Integration & Test and Systems leads.
- Ensure software is testable, including unit, component, integration, and SIL/HIL tests, with observability hooks.
- Lead Dev Sec Ops and CI/CD practices, ensuring repeatable builds, automated testing, artifact traceability, and consistent deployments.
- Collaborate with Integration & Test to align cadence to integration increments and controlled configuration baselines.
- Drive verification and validation execution, develop test strategies, analyze results, and triage defects.
- Track delivery metrics (velocity, cycle time, quality, technical debt) and use them to improve predictability and quality.
- Coach and mentor engineers on Agile practices, test automation, CI/CD, code quality, and observability.
- Contribute to risk and issue management affecting software delivery and integration readiness, escalating when necessary.
- Document integration results, test findings, and provide inputs for design reviews and readiness assessments.
- Bachelor’s Degree and U.S. citizenship with an active Top Secret clearance.
- 5+ years of experience leading work translating requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs, and interface specifications.
- 5+ years of experience as an Agile Systems or Software Development Team Lead.
- 5+ years of experience with Dev Sec Ops lifecycle (Git, Jenkins, CI/CD).
- 5+ years of experience with configuration management and collaboration tools (Git, JIRA, Collaborator, Beyond Compare, Version One).
- 1+ year of proficiency in scripting/programming languages for automation and testing (Python, Bash).
- Preferred:
Level 5 BS and 14+ years related experience, or BSc and 18+ years, or 22+ years related experience, or advanced MS/PhD. - Experience with requirements tracing, configuration management, and agile certifications (CSM, PSM, SAFe).
- Prior leadership on aerospace, defense, avionics, or safety‑critical systems.
- Experience with cloud‑native infrastructure (Docker/Kubernetes, AWS Gov Cloud, Azure Government).
- Experience with model‑based design/verification, SIL/HIL testing environments.
- Experience managing subcontractor software deliveries.
- Significant experience with real‑time embedded software (C/C++), low‑level drivers, network stacks, and HW/SW testing/debugging for microcontrollers or FPGAs.
- Ability to implement real‑time embedded hardware, firmware, and software.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with physical modeling and simulation tools (MATLAB, Python, Jupyter).
- Experience with real‑time embedded systems and low‑level driver development.
- Demonstrated control system logic/algorithm, hardware, and software development tasks.
Travel: 10% for candidates based in Berkeley, MO; 75% for candidates based outside Berkeley, MO. Position is based in Berkeley, MO but may be performed from other Boeing U.S. locations.
Compensation & Benefits- Base pay range for Senior/Lead Level: $198,050 – $286,350.
- Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
