Special Education Para educator

Location:

Berkley Building Blocks and Adult Transition Para educator

Hours:

30 hours per week Compensation:
Per the Berkley Education Association of Paraeducators (BEAP)

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required: 2 years college preferred. An experienced Para educator with background assisting a student with disabilities. Applicant should have general knowledge of high school curriculum in reading, writing, math and science and possess skills in these areas at the K-5 school level. The applicant must be a positive, upbeat individual who is caring and flexible and must be able to adjust to the physical and emotional needs of the student.

Applicant must be cooperative, dependable, show initiative and accept direction. Knowledge of computer assisted instruction, typing is desirable. C.P.I. training with current record on file or willing to be trained. Able to lift at least 50 pounds, stoop, bend and kneel on one of both knees, as well as physically manage student if necessary. Use of vehicle and cell phone are required

Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional:
Assistant in encouraging independent toileting ist with student's participation in small groups of students as directed by the classroom teacher. Assist with toilet training and diaper changes. Assist caseload with Procare messages and communication (Berkley Building Blocks). Serve as a job coach for Adult Transition Students at a Work Based Learning Site Communicate with caseload teachers regarding progress at Work Based Learning Accompany Adult Transition students on community outings

General Responsibilities:

The applicant may need to assist students at lunch time. The applicant will maintain flexible hours of employment and adjust working time to the student's needs as determined by the classroom teacher and other school professional staff. Assist the teacher in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials. Assist in maintaining files and records. The applicant will perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, special education coordinator and building administrator.

The applicant may need to assist students at snack and meal time. The applicant will assist children with diapering and toilet training. The applicant will engage in play with students as well as large and small group activities (Berkley Building Blocks).
