Field Construction Manager (FCM)
The Field Construction Manager works under the guidance of the Project Manager and Construction Manager to coordinate, manage, and supervise all construction and on‑site electromechanical tasks, including civil work.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinating the schedule with the Project Manager and Construction Manager to ensure required site progress.
- Managing the mobilization and demobilization of resources in a timely manner.
- Implementing corrective measures to ensure compliance with client policies and procedures regarding safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
- Providing proactive field support to resolve problems.
- Opening and closing daily work notifications; inspecting substation/ROW perimeter.
- Reporting weekly/monthly and documenting site meetings.
- Monitoring schedule and attending contractor meetings.
- Maintaining onsite H&S, Environment, and Quality project binder.
- Organizing and documenting project progress.
- Preparing Final File and reviewing contractor invoices and schedules.
- Conducting weekly project progress meetings; requesting a two‑week look‑ahead schedule.
- Being onsite during work and observing contractor activities.
- Notifying PM of issues or public complaints.
- Coordinating material delivery and inspecting construction materials.
- Ensuring workmanship conforms to specifications and schedules.
- Resolving construction problems with engineering personnel, inspectors, contractors, and suppliers.
- Minimizing change orders and reviewing/recommending on change orders or notices.
- Enhancing project constructability considering schedule, cost, and quality.
- Attending E‑STAR/CONVEX training and initiating transmission outage requests.
- Maintaining project change order and correspondence log.
- Communicating continuously with PM and coordinating with local/state municipalities.
- Adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Reviewing HASP from contractors and attending daily briefs.
- Providing Safety Orientation Checklist and ensuring completion.
- Supervising daily safety activities and preparing weekly inspections.
- Reporting and investigating accidents/incidents and proposing corrective actions.
- Reviewing Environmental Management Plan and providing improvements.
- Including environmental tips in daily briefs and ensuring checklist completion.
- Supervising daily environmental activities and preparing weekly inspections.
- Reporting and investigating environmental incidents and proposing corrective actions.
- Reviewing Inspection Test Plan from contractors and ensuring onsite records are organized.
- Updating IFC drawings and tracking contractor mark‑ups.
- Controlling project documentation and ensuring compliance with permits.
- Verifying equipment testing and as‑built data.
- Performing weekly audits and inspections and proposing non‑conformance actions.
- Reviewing contractor material submittals and verifying material receipts.
- Uploading documents to Project Wise and proposing lessons learned.
- Conducting pre/post energization inspections and reconciling materials at project end.
Must have a BS/BA degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET (or equivalent) accredited college/university or 10 years’ experience in the following areas:
- Construction Management
- Construction, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment
- Relay protection and control systems
- Start‑up and commissioning of electrical equipment and systems
- Electrical Field engineering
- Arc Flash safety training
- Troubleshooting of electrical equipment or systems
- SCADA and communication systems
- Background Check clearance to obtain a contractor badge per IUSA Contractor Background Check policy.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- First Aid/AED.
- OSHA 30LI‑Hybri.
