Overview

This entry‑level Associate Transmission System Operator (ATSO) position offers experience and training necessary to advance to the Transmission System Operator classification.

ResponsibilitiesBecome knowledgeable of the generation, transmission, and sub‑transmission system components, nomenclature, and general operating procedures, as well as the switching and tagging procedures outlined in the appropriate Participant directives.
Perform duties under the guidance of a Transmission System Operator, with limited accountability and authority as defined for the ATSO level.
Experience & QualificationsEducation: Associate's degree in electrical engineering technology or two years of formal technical training beyond high school, or equivalent.
Experience: Four years of related experience, including work in generating stations, electrical maintenance, power system protection and control, electrical system line work, or power system dispatching.

- Mathematical reasoning ability and ability to work with computer‑based applications to perform computational/analytical work.
- Ability to handle increasingly complex training assignments, including varied tasks designed to provide experience and familiarization with system operations while on a rotating shift.
- Applicants must successfully pass the SO/PD (System Operator/Power Dispatcher) Test, a requirement for selection.
Maximize transmission reliability and availability, minimize congestion, and thoroughly understand and apply operating procedures and guidelines.
Thoroughly understand and interpret local flow tools and applications.

Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. Emergency Restoration assignments may be assigned outside normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
