The Berlin Steel Construction Company is a full-service specialty contractor, primarily with structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We design, fabricate, and erect structures in the Northeast and in other parts of the country. We have 2 fabrication facilities, 4 erection operations facilities, and 6 office locations that provide engineering and management of projects. We are a 100% employee-owned company (ESOP) with a desire for growth.
We service the private commercial, public, institutional, and industrial markets.
We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Civil Engineer to join our engineering team in-person in our Kensington, CT office. You will support the design of structural steel connections and miscellaneous metals. This role offers hands‑on exposure to real‑world projects and mentorship under experienced engineers, with opportunities to grow technical expertise in steel, concrete, and specialty structures.
Essential Functions- Design structural steel connections in compliance with AISC and OSHA standards
- Design miscellaneous metal components
, including stairs, railings, platforms, and specialty structures utilizing steel, concrete, aluminum, glass, wood, and masonry - Provide structural design support related to fabrication and erection needs
- Develop engineering sketches and design details for the detailing department
- Collaborate with detailers to resolve design conflicts and constructability issues
- Perform detailing tasks using company software as needed
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams to ensure project safety, accuracy, and timely issue resolution
- Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental and operational needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
, with coursework in structural analysis of steel and concrete - Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
- Working knowledge of IBC, AISC, ASCE, ACI
, and AutoCAD - Familiarity with STAAD.Pro or similar structural analysis software preferred, but not required
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment
