About the RoleThe Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. The role involves designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, and engineering electrical protection and control circuits.
Responsibilities- Design and analysis of substation site infrastructure for high‑voltage electrical facilities, including structural steel, foundations, rigid bus systems, site grading, stormwater management, oil containment, and substation sanitary and water services.
- Assist in the development and approval of project scopes, specifications, engineering designs, details, material ordering, and cost estimates.
- Adhere to project schedules, planning successive construction phases to account for outage durations and maintain realistic timelines.
- Coordinate with Substation Engineering and Design to communicate project details and ensure all system additions, removals, and modifications are properly designed for safe operation and maintenance.
- Communicate effectively, demonstrate strong computer proficiency, and produce clear, concise written documentation.
- Perform root‑cause analysis and support the development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Review engineering vendor submittals and participate in vendor meetings to address comments and questions throughout the design and review cycle.
- Review all construction drawings and design documentation prior to issuance to construction contractors.
- Ensure all work complies with Eversource standards and applicable Codes.
- Verify accurate design and specification of additions, modifications, and replacements to transmission and distribution systems in accordance with project schedules.
- Provide Civil Engineering support during construction, including resolving field questions and approving field‑generated changes to issued designs.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Software proficiency: RISA (3D, Foundation, Connection) and MathCAD.
- Additional beneficial software experience:
AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, L‑Pile, PLS Tower, TNX Tower, Retain Pro, and HydroCAD. - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an EAC/ABET‑accredited program (required).
- 3–5 years of civil/structural experience (required), preferably in the electrical utility industry.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) license (preferred).
- Professional Engineering (PE) license (preferred).

Must be available for emergency restoration assignments as required and to travel between MA/CT/NH. The role requires office work (sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs) and frequent site visits to substations. A valid driver’s license is required. Hybrid schedule: at least three days in office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays; the third day is set by employee and supervisor.
