Electrical CAD Designer/Drafter

Asplundh Engineering Services (AES) is seeking a full‑time Designer/Drafter for our Lewiston, ME office. A hybrid work environment is available; remote options may be considered for well‑qualified candidates, but we prefer candidates who are within commuting distance of the office.

Perform computer‑aided drafting and design, quality control, and creation of electrical, structural, and control drawings using AutoCAD and/or Micro Station. Drive learning of drafting standards, coordinate with Engineers, Project Managers, attend job meetings, training, and weekly paperwork.

• Perform Computer Aided Drafting and/or Design
• Assist with Computer‑Aided Drafting quality control
• Create, edit, and design electrical, structural, and/or control drawings using AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, including One‑Line diagrams, Three‑Line diagrams, Logic diagrams, Schematics, Wiring diagrams, Panel Front views, Control House layouts, and physical and civil yard layout drawings
• Learn internal company and external client drafting standards, practices, and procedures to ensure work conforms to client expectations
• Coordinate and assist Engineers with plan and specification development, collaborate on design issues, and incorporate concepts into CAD drawing packages for utility power delivery projects
• Assist Project Managers and Engineers to deliver projects on time and within budget
• Attend job meetings and coordinate activities as required
• Attend training as requested to further enhance duties
• Complete and submit weekly paperwork

Required:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship
• Associate’s/technical degree in an accredited drafting program, Computer‑Aided Architectural Drafting and Design program, technical school in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
• 3+ years drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, preferably in an engineering environment
• Working knowledge of CAD standards and drafting best practices
• Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills

Desired:

• 5+ years drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, preferably in utility infrastructure or substation design
• Experience with CAD image integration such as Autodesk Raster Design and/or Bentley Descartes
• Construction or utility experience – interpreting utility/substation electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and/or substation physical/civil drawings
• Experience working with scaled drawings
• Working knowledge of survey coordinate systems
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with Blue Beam Revu (or alternative PDF editor software)
• Experience with Project Wise File Management System
• Reliable, detail‑oriented self‑starter who takes ownership of assigned tasks
• Familiarity with basic engineering principles and practical design solutions
• Ability to produce accurate work with attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and ability to learn and adapt quickly

• Driver’s license preferred but not required
