Position: Lead Engineer, Integrated Energy Planning (Hybrid Schedule)

Role and Scope of Position

The Lead Engineer Integrated Energy Planning leads a team of electric and gas planning engineers, conducts studies for targeted electrification, non‑pipeline alternatives (NPA), and gas‑electric coordination, and represents the company to internal and external stakeholders, regulators, policymakers, and senior management. As a subject‑matter expert on integrated energy planning, the engineer also develops new processes, documentation, and reports, and gains detailed knowledge of gas planning.

Functions
  • Lead a team of gas and electric system planning engineers across all operating companies.
  • Own the targeted electrification pilots and the NPA process, and secure budget authorization for necessary infrastructure upgrades.
  • Develop and manage an integrated energy planning process and standard.
  • Coordinate utility‑to‑utility data exchange for overlapping service territories.
  • Work closely with community relations, regulatory affairs, energy efficiency, and advanced forecasting teams on electrification projects.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional groups to develop multi‑year electrification projects.
  • Support the company’s regulatory strategy on targeted electrification and engage with rate subject‑matter experts to develop specific rates.
  • Manage backlog, priorities, and resource planning using an agile approach, delivering status reports on time and in quality.
  • Advise on career progressions, set goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide professional development for direct reports.
  • Prepare documentation and testimony to support regulatory filings and present recommendations to all management levels.
  • Represent the department on committees, recommend criteria and standards for distribution modeling, and provide leadership to engineering teams.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, Education, Licenses, Certifications
  • Advanced knowledge of distribution systems, planning, and modeling tools (e.g., Synergi Electric).
  • Advanced knowledge of distribution line and substation design and operating practices.
  • Advanced electrical theory applied to power supply planning.
  • Familiarity with non‑pipeline alternatives and basic understanding of gas planning processes.
  • Basic coding knowledge (Python, MATLAB) preferred.
  • Knowledge of National, State, and other planning standards.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strategic partnerships.
  • High personal and team standards, accountability, and results orientation.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical Engineering with a power systems concentration preferred).
  • Minimum eight (8) years of related experience in distribution line and substation design, planning, and operations.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience preferred.
Working Conditions

Must be available for emergency restoration assignments, travel between MA/CT/NH, and occasional to significant car travel. Requires a valid driver’s license and office‑based work with occasional field travel.
