Candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug screen and a basic physical; be able to work full‑time, 40+ hours per week. The hours for this position are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. 12‑hour shift.

Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety‑sensitive.

Position Summary

Based in Berlin, CT, the Heat Treater will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the Production Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Heat Treating Technician. Depending on skills and experience, this role may be filled at one of the following levels:

Level C:
Entry Level (0 to 24 months of heat treating experience)
  • Assists with operations, control, and monitoring of heat treating and related equipment as required and written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.
Level B:
Mid‑Level (2 to 3 years of experience in heat treating)
  • Operates, controls, and monitors heat treating equipment as required and written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.
Level A:
Senior‑Level (3 to 5 years of experience and a deep understanding of heat treating)
  • Independently operates, controls, and monitors heat treating equipment as required and written in procedures on shop traveler and/or customer paperwork.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
  • Prepares work for processing; loads and unloads furnaces, bins, fixtures, baskets, etc.
  • Brings any unusual problems or irregularities to the attention of the supervisor.
  • Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and, as such, will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co‑workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
Qualifications
  • Must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have working knowledge of metallurgy, temperatures, etc.
  • May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends.
  • Must have forklift operation certification.
  • Must demonstrate ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone.
Pay & Benefits

The hourly pay range for this position is $20–$25 per hour. Starting pay is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is classified as non‑exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with state and federal law. The role is eligible for additional compensation, including shift differential.
