Job Purpose / Position Summary The EDM Wire Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating electrical discharge machining (EDM) wire equipment to produce high‑precision components according to engineering specifications. This role ensures all parts meet quality, safety, and production standards by interpreting technical drawings, performing accurate measurements, conducting routine machine maintenance, and documenting production activities.
Duties and Responsibilities- Set up and operate wire EDM machines
- Hold tolerances up to ±0.0001 and inspect own work accurately
- Apply strong working knowledge of wire EDM processes
- Perform routine machine maintenance and troubleshoot issues as needed
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and efficiency on all assigned jobs
- Capable of setting up WEDM Equipment such as:
- Makino EDAF-2
- Roboform 20A
- Drillmate
- Fanuc Robocut 180IS-WB
- (2) Fanuc Robocut series 16-W
- Capable of performing maintenance on equipment and documenting maintenance procedures performed.
- Capable of tracking wire inventories and consumable spare parts and informing supervisors of supplies needed.
- Keeping department clean and organized while practicing 5S.
- Work closely with associates, sharing knowledge, teaching & training of apprentices and coworkers as needed.
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
- Strong verbal communication and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and ability to deal with complexity
- Capable of working in a customer-focused, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a positive attitude
- Interested in learning with, and from, peers, engineering, and programming team to improve operations
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Technical/Vocational training welcome.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily shop floor within a precision manufacturing facility.
- Required to stand, walk; may occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs.
- Required to wear appropriate PPE (safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection).
