Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen and basic physical and be able to work full-time, 40+ hours per week. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 4pm-12:30am. Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety-sensitive.
Position SummaryBased in Berlin, CT, the Inspector will perform essential job functions associated with heat treatment under the direction of the Quality Manager to meet customer specifications, including assisting other employees as needed.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following.
- Accurately perform hardness and other tests and record results as required.
- Perform calibration of all testing equipment accurately and on schedule.
- Perform audits, weekly probes, surveys, etc. as needed or defined by procedure and/or schedule.
- May be required to complete conformance certificates and/or other related paperwork.
- Meet all specification requirements per BMS.
- Report any deviation, problem or irregularity to supervisor or management immediately.
- Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
- Perform other tasks as designated by position
- This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage
- Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism

- This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum one to three years in heat treating industry or related field
- Must have working knowledge of all testing equipment and terminology
- Basic knowledge of commercial and aerospace materials and heat treating equipment is desired
- Must have some experience reading/interpreting blueprints/specifications, be detail oriented and possess manual dexterity
- May be required to work overtime or any shift, including weekends
- Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operator certification
- Knowledge and hands on experience of computer applications including Microsoft Office and databases is required
- Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language
The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.
- Must be able to work in a sitting and standing position for extended periods of time in an industrial environment
- Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions
- Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
- Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
- Ability to hear in person and via phone
The hourly pay range for this position is $22 – $25 per hour. Starting pay is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with state and federal law. This role is {eligible/not eligible} for additional compensation, including shift differential.
