Heritage Consultants, LLC, a Connecticut-based cultural resources management firm, is seeking a full-time Geophysical Specialist.

The job will entail 40% fieldwork and 60% office work, and involve significant coordination with our partner firm, Terra Search Geophysical, LLC. Fieldwork will generally be local to New England but may also involve travel for projects in other regions. The successful candidate, with on-the-job training, will be expected to assist with and conduct ground penetrating radar, magnetometry, and electromagnetic conductivity surveys, as well as geophysical investigations that complement Phase II and III archaeological surveys.

Both Heritage and Terra Search are involved in wide-ranging geophysical surveys of locally, regionally, and nationally important archaeological sites, and we encourage our employees to present research at conferences and disseminate research in academic journals and popular publications.

Qualified candidates must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, or a related field
  • Firsthand experience with collecting geophysical data
  • Significant experience with ArcGIS
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others and be a proactive part of a project team
  • Detailed note-taking skills
  • A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in challenging environments for eight to ten hours a day
Preferred Candidates will have:
  • A graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or Geology, with a focus on geophysical applications to the archaeological record
  • Experience using RADAN, Geolitix, or Mala Vision to process ground penetrating radar data, as well as Terra Surveyor (or similar program) to process magnetic gradient data
  • Experience collecting and analyzing geophysical data at pre-contact indigenous and historical archaeological sites and within historical cemeteries
Compensation:

Starting pay is $27 per hour, however candidates with preferred qualifications and experience will be considered for higher hourly rates. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K plan, as well as mileage reimbursement and per diem for all away jobs.
