Retail Job Coach/Individualized Support Provider

Location: Good Cause Gifts Retail Stores – Berlin

Schedule: Part-time; shifts are generally scheduled during standard retail hours 10:00 AM – 7:00 P

Compensation: Starting at $19.00-$20.00/hour- with opportunities for growth

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Retail Job Coach/Individualized Support Provider to support individuals as they engage in meaningful employment in a retail environment. This unique role combines the responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) with those of a retail team member. The ideal candidate is patient, adaptable, and enthusiastic about mentoring others while contributing to store operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coach and encourage individuals in performing retail tasks (stocking, customer service, merchandising, register operation).
  • Promote independence and skill-building through consistent modeling and positive reinforcement.
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Document progress, challenges, and achievements in line with program requirements.
  • Communicate with program staff, supervisors, and families to coordinate support.
  • Assist with transportation or travel training as outlined in service plans.
  • Contribute to daily store operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in a support services or job coaching role preferred. Candidates with transferable skills and a passion for our mission are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to support travel needs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift, and provide physical support.
  • Completion of required background checks and DSP training.
Preferred
  • Associate’s degree or coursework in human services, education, or a related field.
  • Previous retail or customer service experience.
  • Experience with documentation or progress reporting.

Additional Information
  • Reports to: Program Supervisor
  • Training & Certifications Provided: CPR, PMT, and DSP training (through Futures Inc.)
  • Work Environment: Charming Retail store settings in Berlin, New Britain, and West Hartford.
  • Seasonal & Coverage: This position includes steady part‑time hours with the opportunity to take on additional seasonal shifts during November–December. Team members may also provide occasional coverage for open shift needs throughout the year.
