Job DescriptionTitle: Title I Paraprofessionals
Reports To: Title I Supervising Interventionist, Title I Director, Building Principal, Superintendent
Requirements: Para II Certification
Equipment Used: office equipment (photocopy machines, laminators, etc.), technology (laptops, chrome books, etc.), computer programs (google chrome, zoom, word, etc.), adaptive equipment (auditory trainers, walkers, etc.)
Environment: 90% indoors; 10% outdoors; remote learning if needed (bus/recess supervision, field trips, drills, etc.)
Physical Activity Requirements: Walking, climbing stairs multiple times a day, standing for periods of time, lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs. occasionally if no medical restrictions apply.
If certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention, educational assistants may be required to assist other certified staff in physically restraining a disruptive student.
In particular circumstances with some students, Title I Paraprofessionals may be required to assist other staff in two‑person lifts (e.g., to transfer a student in or out of a wheelchair). In those instances, they will receive training in proper lifting procedures. Untrained Paraprofessionals shall not be required to assist in a lift.
Essential Functions- Ensure safety of students.
- Perform all assigned duties according to policies, rules, and regulations of Berlin Public Schools and the NH Department of Education.
- Become familiar with a wide variety of reading and math materials and their use.
- Provide interventions and support to children in small groups daily or several times per week.
- Confer with the Title I Educational Supervising Interventionist regarding coordination and progress of support in place for accelerating learning.
- Maintain daily records of lessons and required record keeping.
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials.
- Follow district policies for discipline issues.
- Assist with the supervision of students on the playground, in the lunchroom, during bus duties, and/or on field trips during working hours.
- Assist with assessment through administration and/or supervision of students.
- Observe confidentiality of privileged information at all times. Respect “Need to Know”.
- Attend all mandatory meetings and training programs during working hours.
- Participate in the District’s professional development plan.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and colleagues through the demonstration of responsibility, citizenship, respect, and courtesy.
- Title I Paraprofessionals are NOT to transport students in their private vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
- Classroom teachers are ultimately responsible for the students’ instruction and assessments.
- Title I staff provide supplemental support to close gaps through acceleration of learning and/or extended practice time in skill acquisition and conceptual understandings to minimize the range of abilities within a grade level and/or classroom setting.
- Title I staff may administer additional assessments, observations, and data to further refine and identify specific information to support intervention work and coordinate this process with grade level classroom teachers.
- Title I Paraprofessionals may be utilized in various ways to support students such as, but not limited to:
- Sessions with 1:1 ratio and/or a small group.
- Sessions lasting 5 minutes to 30 minutes.
- Sessions occurring 1 to 5 times per week.
- Sessions structured as a pull‑out or a push‑in model.
- Title I Paraprofessionals will not be responsible for direct evaluation such as preparing and marking exams except those assessments that are prepared and administered as part of the intervention program for screening, placement, progress monitoring, or discharge.
- Communication with parents of students receiving Tier 2 Title I interventions shall be through the classroom teacher, Title I Supervising Interventionists, or the Title I Director.
