Special Education Teacher
Job Description
Under the supervision of the Special Services Director, a Special Education Teacher will develop and implement comprehensive educational plans for students with disabilities.
Job Responsibilities- Collaborate with service providers to determine and coordinate evaluations and/or related service plans.
- Collaborate with regular education staff to provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for students in need of special education.
- Work with students and their families to improve student outcomes through recommendations and special education support systems.
- Provide direct instruction and/or specialized instruction to meet the needs of each student as described in their IEP.
- Coordinate with classroom teachers to maximize inclusion opportunities.
- Maintain a safe learning environment.
- Schedule, notify, facilitate, summarize, and file paperwork for all IEP-related meetings for students on your caseload.
- Supervise special education assistants who work with students on your caseload.
- Communicate IEP information to special education assistants/paraprofessionals.
- Oversee data collection.
- Communicate about upcoming professional development opportunities.
- Develop IEPs using evaluation information to meet the needs of students in the least restrictive environment.
- Schedule annual reviews 15 days prior to expiration.
- Complete initial IEP within 30 days of eligibility determination.
- Monitor IEP goal progress, collaborate with classroom teachers and service providers for progress reports, and distribute progress monitoring reports to families and team members once per grading period.
- Meet compliance standards of NH Rules for the Education of Students with Disabilities.
- Have working knowledge of the NH Special Education Information System (NHSEIS) for IEP development.
- At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
