Job Description

POSITION

DESCRIPTION:

QUALIFICATIONS:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct remedial instruction for students needing additional reading services.
  • Provide help with guided reading groups in the classroom.
  • Provide materials and/or services for gifted and talented students.
  • Provide lesson modeling for teachers.
  • Test and evaluate students within the first two weeks of school to determine reading placement.
  • Provide individual testing upon referral from classroom teacher.
  • Assist teachers in benchmarking students' reading level throughout the school year.
  • Test, interpret, and recommend modifications for delivery of instruction.
  • Coordinate the K‑3 reading/writing program.
  • Coordinate the K‑3 testing program in reading/writing.
  • Coordinate the K‑3 professional development in reading/writing.
  • Coordinate the K‑3 reading/writing budget and ordering of materials.
  • Review student records and test scores with teachers and administrators to help make decisions about individualized instruction.
  • Work with classroom teachers to implement reading/writing materials, programs, and assessments.
  • Be available to advise or to answer questions about reading/writing concerns.
  • Provide support to new teachers and parents.
  • Provide ideas and advice to teachers for students, groups, and/or special projects related to reading & writing.
  • Help teachers locate and maintain a current inventory of additional resources for use with the classroom reading/writing programs.
  • Help keep teachers up‑to‑date on new methods, programs and materials by providing in‑service programs, refresher courses or sharing sessions for staff.
  • Promote the lifetime enjoyment of reading as a goal for students, teachers, and the community.
Job Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Reading/Education
  • Reading & Writing Specialist Certification K‑12
  • At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
