Do you want to help make a difference in the lives of individuals and families in need? Consider bringing your talents to the Guardian Angel Thrift Shop (GATS) in Berlin, NH. We are currently seeking a part‑time (25 hours/week) Assistant Manager to join our team.
This is a hands‑on, active retail role. The Assistant Manager works on the sales floor and in the donation area daily. This position requires standing and walking for most of the shift, frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 30 pounds, and assisting with the movement of furniture and merchandise. This is not an administrative or desk‑based position.
Under the ownership of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, Guardian Angel Thrift Shop is a community resource selling donated clothing, furniture, and other household items to members of the greater Berlin community. This is a critical resource for local residents.
Responsibilities- Assist with opening/closing, donation intake, pricing, and store security.
- Sort, tag, lift, and display donated items, including clothing, household goods, and small furniture.
- Frequently lift and carry items up to 30 lbs.; occasionally assist with moving larger items.
- Stand and move throughout the store for the majority of each shift.
- Dispose of unusable items as needed.
- Keep the store clean, organized, and well‑stocked.
- Manage inventory and rotate items as needed.
- Support volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling.
- Ensure volunteers follow procedures and provide good customer service.
- Report concerns and provide feedback to the Operations Manager.
- Greet and assist customers professionally and kindly.
- Handle basic inquiries and issues; escaltate when necessary.
- Foster a welcoming and positive environment.
- Assist with cash handling, deposits, and daily sales reports.
- Help with revenue tracking and basic record‑keeping.
- Ensure safety procedures and theft prevention policies are followed.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Prior experience in retail sales, second‑hand, and/or thrift shop preferred.
- Point‑of‑sale (POS) system/cash register experience and ability to work with numbers preferred.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to climb stairs.
