Salary: $28.37/hour - $34.74/hour
Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 if hired before 3/1/2027
Hazardous Duty Pay: $60 biweekly (not included in salary)
Trainee Status:
Yes – pay rate $25.17 per hour; must meet minimum qualifications within one year of hire
- High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
- Six months of experience as a Corrections Officer or equivalent in law enforcement, police work, or the military.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- Must be able to use firearms and demonstrate proficiency by passing weapons qualifications annually.
- Must complete training at the Corrections Academy and obtain certification as a Corrections Officer during probation.
- Must succeed a physical agility test.
- Must pass a comprehensive medical examination at state expense.

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTSApplicants must successfully participate and meet the criteria as outlined in the state administrative rule Pol 300 Applicants and Qualifications – Police Standards and Training Council for Corrections Officers.
CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIESIn-Band Advancement Available:
- 1. Satisfactory completion of the Examinations Requirements and Certifications of a Corrections Officer.
- 2. Six months of experience as a Corrections Officer or equivalent.
- 3. Satisfactory job performance during evaluation period.
- 4. Recommendation of superiors.

RESPONSIBILITIESMaintains security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility, intervenes during emergencies or altercations, and gains physical control of offenders.
Supervises, escorts, and/or transports the movement of offenders inside and outside the facility, conducts periodic counts, and searches offenders and their living quarters for contraband.
Supervises housing units and offenders during work, recreational, and religious activities; conducts health and safety hazard inspections.
Performs random and specific searches of residents and visitors to prevent introduction of contraband.
Conducts interviews and obtains statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and other involved parties during incidents.
Prepares appropriate tracking, reports, and documentation for disciplinary and mitigation proceedings.
Promotes rehabilitation by modifying offender social attitudes, discouraging undesirable behaviors, and encouraging worthwhile activities.
Detains offenders, forcibly if necessary, using restraints and weapons as permitted by law.
Performs rescue functions as a first responder, administering medical aid and evacuating individuals from dangerous situations.
Utilizes technological tools and devices while performing security and administrative duties.
Maintains all ongoing training requirements of the DOC and New Hampshire law enforcement.
Acts as ex officio constable with general police powers within the facility.
