This position receives Hazardous Duty Pay, paid biweekly at $60, not included in salary.
Schedule6:30 AM – 2:30 PM with Saturdays and Sundays off.
Position SummarySupervises and performs technical maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and related equipment in a prison environment. Operates closely with prisoners daily and retains responsibility for security.
Experience and EducationEach additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and vice versa.
Minimum Qualifications- Equivalent combination of five years of education and experience after high school in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment used in buildings.
- At least two years of supervisory experience.
- Pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of four or more years of relevant education and experience, including at least one year of supervisory experience, may be considered for trainee status.
After‑Hire Requirements- Provide security, supervision, and training for inmate workers with security as priority.
- Supervise, schedule, train, and assist subordinates to maintain equipment continuously.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC systems and related equipment.
- Maintain knowledge of large industrial chillers and cooling towers, including operation, testing, chemical treatment, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems and controls—electrical, pneumatic, electronic, sensors, transmitters, relay failures—to prevent costly downtime.
- Respond to emergencies using good judgment and ensuring work meets federal, state, local codes, and recommended ACA standards.
- Order materials and supplies, maintain inventory to prevent downtime, and provide job cost information for budgeting.
- Calibrate and adjust hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls and motors for efficient operation and comfort.
- Maintain records and logs of HVAC equipment and procure specifications for competitive bidding on large alterations and major repairs.
