Job OverviewWe have a full-time vacancy for Maintenance Technician in the Resource:
The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Administration - Logistics. Salary is $25.40/hour - $34.14/hour. Working hours are 6:30am - 2:30pm with Saturdays and Sundays off. This position receives hazardous duty pay of $60 paid biweekly (not included in salary above).
Supervises and performs the technical maintenance, repair, installation, and calibration of HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and related equipment in a prison environment, working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis, having responsibility for security.
Responsibilities- Provide security, supervision, and training for inmate workers to complete the required tasks in a proficient manner with security being the priority.
- Supervise, schedule, train and assist subordinate staff ensuring continuous maintenance and repairs of equipment.
- Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains HVAC systems and related equipment for the Northern NH Correctional Facility.
- Maintain and possess knowledge of large industrial chillers and cooling towers which includes sequence of operation, test, chemically treat, clean, and maintain.
- Prevent costly downtime and repairs by being able to diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems and controls; electrical, pneumatic, electronics, sensors, transmitters, and relay failures.
- Respond to emergencies by using good judgment and assuring that the work is completed safely and meets federal, state, and local codes and recommended ACA standards.
- Order materials and supplies and maintain inventory of needed parts to prevent costly downtime of equipment and provide job costs for budgetary information.
- Calibrate and adjust hydraulic, pneumatic, electric and electronic controls and motors to ensure efficient operations and comfortable environment.
- Maintain records, logs on HVAC equipment and write or procure specifications for competitive bidding by vendors on large HVAC alterations and major repairs.
- Equivalent combination of 5 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
- Education and experience must be in the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical equipment used in buildings, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license or have access to transportation for statewide travel.
- Must have a State of NH Gas Fitters license.
- Must pass security and background screenings required for correctional environments.
- Candidates with an equivalent combination of 4+ years of relevant education and experience with at least 1+ year of supervisory experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in trainee status for this position.

- Successful completion of the Corrections Academy within 12 months of hire and continuing certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.
- Successful completion of HVAC refrigerant certification within 12 months of hire.
- Must be available for on-call through rotating schedule for off hour coverage to respond to emergencies and requests for timely assistance, in accordance with departmental policy.
- Must be willing to work an extended and/or flexible schedule, to include nights and weekends for emergency response to needs at the facilities; may be required to report for work with little notice due to emergencies.
