Classroom Teacher Assistant Job Compensation:

  • $15.93 to $19.24 per hour (depending on experience).

Job Responsibilities:

Active Supervision of Children:

  • Ensure children are supervised by sight and sound at all times as stated in the UMOS Supervision Handbook. Ensure all others working in classroom comply with Supervision procedures.
  • Comply with and enforce UMOS Active Supervision Policy and Procedures of children by ensuring, including but not limited to, use appropriate name-to-face counts, and maintaining appropriate teacher-to-child ratios and group sizes.
  • Responsible for overall safety, sanitation, and cleanliness of classroom at all times.
  • Maintain that both classroom and playground are well organized and free from clutter at all times.
  • Ensure safe working environment and follow all agency safety procedures and reporting.

Educational program:

  • Provide under the Teacher supervision a developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily plan in accordance with assigned UMOS curriculum, policies, and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with Classroom Teacher to schedule, complete and track all required home visits/conferences, developmental screenings, ongoing assessments, collection and timely online entry of classroom observations and documentations, completion of ongoing assessment finalization checkpoints for all children in the classroom within the specified time frame for each event.
  • Work with the classroom teacher in using those results to create/update individualized plans with parents to address each child’s needs and track child’s progress. The Assistant Teacher will assist the teacher in the completion of required reports on children and classroom activities. This includes documents such as: the child roster/absentee/tracking form, Active Supervision Process, Meal Count form, Classroom Child File, Case Notes, and developmental screenings and assessments.
  • Assistant Teacher will also work with the classroom teacher in the setup, maintenance, and daily preparation/clean‑up of both the indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Comply with deadlines established for completion of daily and weekly tasks as assigned by the Center Manager, Education Coordinator, and all other content areas as assigned.
  • Collaborate with Special Needs Facilitator(s) to help understand identified Special Needs children, to individualize each child’s needs and goals as needed. And will seek clarification for any aspects that are not well understood.
  • Establish behavioral strategies in conjunction with Education Coordinator, Teacher, and Special Needs Facilitator for any child with behavioral challenges that impede his/her learning experience.

Working with families and children:

  • Communicate professionally and effectively with all families and children daily. Examples include but are not limited to red bag notebooks, visit/conference forms, and parent notifications.
  • Communicate with and respond to individual children during activities and routine by communicating with children at eye level, using appropriate tone of voice and modeling and questioning to extending children’s thinking and language.
  • Use and model positive guidance techniques with all children in accordance with UMOS policies and procedures and Department of Children and Families Abuse and Neglect Training.
  • Ensure mandated reporter guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Recognize and celebrate cultural diversity into daily routines and engage families to contribute to and participate in multicultural activities regularly.
  • Establish and maintain professional interactions and relationship of respect, mutual trust, and collaboration with families and all staff.
  • Assist to conduct a minimum of two (2) home visits with each family in accordance with CRT established timelines.
