As the Sustainability Assistant, you will contribute to the development, operations, capacity building, and promotion of Grace Klein Community’s sustainability initiatives within our organization and the community role will assist in the development and implementation of strategies to reduce food waste, enhance food rescue efforts, and optimize recycling practices. You will coordinate with internal teams, volunteers, non-profits, and community partners to ensure smooth operations and promote sustainability education.
ResponsibilitiesSustainability Strategy Development
- Collaborate with the Sustainability Liaison to develop comprehensive sustainability strategies aligned with the mission and values of Grace Klein Community.
- Collaborate with business and community partners to develop sustainability strategies with the community at large.
- Identify additional opportunities to minimize food waste within the organization’s operations.
- Nurture and grow our farmer program.
- Identify additional opportunities to rescue surplus food for redistribution.
- Identify opportunities to grow the food rescue hero volunteer database.
- Develop strategies to increase sustainability goals.
- Develop strategies and partnerships to recycle materials.
- Oversee proper use of sustainability equipment.
- Recruit serve teams, and volunteers.
- Raise awareness about sustainability issues.
- Collaborate with schools, businesses, and organizations.
- Provide social media educational content.

- Attend or host food education-related events
- Previous experience in sustainability or a related field preferred.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
