Correctional Behavioral Health NurseWork alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care within a controlled environment, ensuring security remains top priority. Duties include performing physical assessments, administering medications, managing chronic illnesses, and responding to emergencies. This unique position allows you to make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical needs.
Responsibilities- Perform patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems and medication history.
- Take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight.
- Provide wound care, including cleaning and bandaging injured areas.
- Administer medication, including injections, and monitor reactions.
- Maintain medical records, entering information into the electronic health record (Tech Care).
- Observe patient health and mental health status.
- Provide emergency first aid.
- Provide patient education and discharge/release planning.
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Actively state‑certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Ability to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all facility correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR, while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
