Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and energetic individual to join our team as a Playground Monitor at Earl Harris Elementary School. This part time position is essential for ensuring a safe, fun, and engaging environment for students during outdoor playtime. The Playground Monitor will supervise students, promote positive interactions, and enforce school rules to maintain a safe playground atmosphere.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise students on the playground to ensure their safety and well-being during recess and outdoor activities.
  • Monitor student behavior and interactions, promoting positive social skills and conflict resolution.
  • Enforce school rules and playground safety guidelines consistently and fairly.
  • Assist in organizing and leading recreational activities and games to encourage student participation and teamwork.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents regarding any concerns or incidents that arise during playtime.
  • Conduct regular inspections of playground equipment and report any maintenance or safety issues to school administration.
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging atmosphere, fostering a sense of community and belonging among students.
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required to stay informed about school policies and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to support students’ social and emotional development during playtime.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in child development or education is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with children in a school or recreational setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate to children and build positive relationships.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, demonstrating effective problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of playground safety practices and child supervision techniques.
  • Physical ability to supervise active play, including walking, running, and standing for extended periods.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.
  • A commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.
