Special Education Teacher Assistant

Summary

The Special Education Teachers Assistant will work closely with the classroom teacher to provide support and assistance to students with special needs. They will work full time at Earl Harris Elementary School.

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
• Provide one-on‑one and small group support to students during instructional time
• Help to create and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students with special needs
• Monitor student progress and communicate with the classroom teacher about student performance
• Assist with behavior management and intervention strategies
• Collaborate with other school staff, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, to support student needs
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities

• Education Requirements:
  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (no less than 48 hours of college coursework), OR
  • Earned an Associates Degree (or higher), OR
  • Take and pass the ACT Work Keys Assessment scoring a Bronze or higher
  • Complete all necessary training for paraprofessional certification
• Experience working with students with special needs preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other school staff
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to implement behavior management strategies effectively
• Ability to modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students with special needs
• Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
