Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

Primary Responsibilities:

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely.
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using the electronic cash register, scanner, and scale.
• Clean the register area by sweeping floors and wiping check lanes, registers, and scales.
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise by careful product handling, proper price completion, correct identification of produce, accurate money counting, and following store procedures for accepting coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, credit and debit cards.
• Ensure safety for self, customers, and co‑workers by adhering to store safety rules and reporting potential hazards to a supervisor immediately.
• Bag customer purchases quickly and correctly.
• Understand and operate the electronic cash register, scanner, scale, and intercom system safely.
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substitute for absent workers, and carry out any other duties necessary to provide products and services to customers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications:

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Prior experience in a related field or industry.

Specific Tasks:

• Standing capability for a minimum of 4 hours.
• Move a maximum of 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches.
• Move a maximum of 40 lbs. up to 15 feet.
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart.
• Retrieve merchandise on the top of grocery shelves, approximately 84 inches from the floor.
• Bend and twist at the waist while cleaning, moving/removing merchandise, and loading/unloading merchandise.

Work Environment Note: Work inside with transitions of heat, cold, humidity, and dust from the opening of store entrance/exit doors.
