The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Position SummaryResponsible for assisting the Prevention Specialist II and Prevention Coordinator with the provision of diabetes-related health promotion activities in the YK Delta Region. Particular focus is on supporting the lifestyle coaching, supplemental grant activities, and outreach activities. Collects data to ensure compliance with grants, reviews and submits invoices for payments, and collaborates with internal and external partners. Interacts with patients and department case managers to assist with care plan support and management, and provide lifestyle coaching to patients.
This job requires village travel, partnering with village tribal councils, school, and businesses; participation in special projects; collecting and analyzing data; and assisting with community healthcare and health promotion events.
Position QualificationsMinimum Education
: GED or High School Diploma required;
Associate’s Degree Preferred.
Minimum Experience
:
Previous experience in a healthcare or office setting helpful but on-the-job training will be provided. Positive work history. One-year experience in health data collection or three years with other types of data management preferred.
License, Certification, Registration
:
Completion of CITI biomedical and social/behavioral education certificates;
Diabetes Care Coordinator Certificate via ADCES within 90 days of hire. Basic Life Support obtainable within 30 days of hire. Preferred certification/licensure in a health-related field. Ability to obtain national exercise-related certification within one year. Alaska Driver’s License required.
Equipment/Tools
:
Office equipment (i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine). Requires travel to village via small plane in sub-arctic conditions, moderate lifting of equipment, occasional long working hours.
REQUIRED
:
Computer skills and clerical skills; ability to read and write in English; strong interest in health-related issues; public relations and written communication skills; strong collaborative and interpersonal skills; computer skills to include word processing, data entry, spreadsheets; ability to learn new and be proficient with varied software programs.
PREFFERED
: A professional, working knowledge of community planning, community development and community political structure in rural Alaska; knowledge of social and economic conditions of Alaska Native cultures to enhance the relevance of proposed solutions; bi-lingual (Yup’ik/English).
