The Superintendent is responsible for the production aspects of the work and is accountable for: all construction and related activities at the site; producing quality work that is constructed consistent with the standard’s set forth in the project’s contract documents; for performing the work in a timely and cost effective manner; and maintaining a safe work environment that complies with EM 385-1-1, local, state, and federal requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Manage the day-to-day field activities to ensure that the project milestone dates and overall schedule completion date is met
- Manage workforce including interviewing & hiring crew, training employee; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Create detailed short-interval look-ahead project schedules that make sure that upcoming events are communicated, tracked, resourced, and are being proactively attended to.
- Hold regular subcontractor status and coordination meetings to ensure upcoming activities are communicated and resourced accordingly to ensure performance meets schedule and quality requirements.
- Maintain consistent supervision at the place of work to ensure safety, quality, and production standards are met.
- Provide professional and timely and cordial interaction with the US Army Corps of Engineers and end user personnel.
- Create and maintain a culture that values safety, health and cleanliness.
- Manage and coordinate the work to ensure that it is constructed in an orderly and deliberate manner that is consistent with the standard-of-care set forth in the contract documents that is viewed by industry as an effort that is consistent with best-practices standards.
- Establish and maintain all dimensional controls for the project to include the use of third party survey and layout personnel when appropriate.
- Identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate solutions.
- Obtain all inspections and ensure that the quality aspects of the physical work are fully documented.
- Ensure all aspects of the project are compliant with contract terms and legal requirements that govern the project and the community in which the project(s) takes place.
- Administer client specific programs, such as CQC, Safety (EM 385-1-1), Environmental Stewardship.
- Conduct and/or attend pre-construction, progress and other project and staff meetings being used at all times to prevent avoidable rework.
- Manage the punch list and project closeout process to assure timely completion.
- Administering contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders and other agreement to ensure that the scope, terms and conditions are consistently and proactively being met.
- Maintain daily paperwork including timecards, field reports, schedule updates and required correspondence.
- Provide timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups, such as Accounting, HR, Payroll, and MIS.
- Hold regular status/safety meetings with project team and inform them or relevant matters.
- Effectively direct questions and issues from the field to the appropriate party.
- Resolve and/or report project/personnel issues in a timely manner.
- Tactfully communicate difficult and/or sensitive information.
- Travel to business and customer locations, as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Ability and wiliness to abide by the company’s code of conduct, policies and procedures.
- Comply, understand, and support the company’s safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.
- Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.
- Ability to read, interpret, analyze, and put into action a P6 project schedule.
- Knowledge of construction project scheduling and the ability to build detailed short-term look ahead schedules.
- Knowledge of the US Army Corps of Engineers 3-phase quality control procedures.
- Ability to plan future work in detail and ensure that all materials are on site, subcontractors are properly staffed and understand the scope to ensure compliance with the project schedule.
