RN - MS

Hours per Shift: 32

Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent OB experience

License: Must be licensed in good standing as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Alaska

Certifications: Current BLS, NRP, & Fetal Monitoring required. National Certification in Obstetrics preferred.

Must-Have: Successful candidates must pass and maintain competencies for this position.

Description:

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Directs and coordinates nursing care for patients based on nursing practice standards.

Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

Serves as a resource person when the situation requires it.

Applies age‑specific considerations and cultural diversity when rendering patient care.

Is responsible for the care of patients from birth to elderly.

Must have completed a program of education in nursing from an NLN approved institution.

Associate Degree in Nursing is required; BSN is preferred.

Proficient oral and written communication skills are essential.

Able to practice nursing as described in the Alaska Status regarding the practice of Registered Nursing.

Cognitive and technical knowledge is required with the ability to manage care across the continuum.

Must be flexible with the work schedule and possess the ability for independent actions within prescribed limits.

Able to utilize the nursing process in the provision of patient care.

Able to administer treatments, medications, and interpret diagnostic tests.

Provides patient/family/significant other education and collaborates with other professionals.

Knowledge of AWHONN standards is required.

Knowledge of medical terminology is necessary.

Ability to work in a patient care setting is essential.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to document actions involved in care delivery.

Ability to follow guidelines and procedures effectively.

Ability to present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders.

Theoretical knowledge of the nursing process, care management, and continuity of care is required.

Mathematical skills are essential, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret graphs.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Supervisory responsibilities include collaboration with unit secretaries and OB technicians.
