Position: Mechanic - Rural ARFF - Advanced Journey (PCN 250947)

Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead

Job located at MP 0.1 Alaska Peninsula Highway, King Salmon.

Responsibilities
  • Professionally maintain all heavy‑duty and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other user agency vehicles operated in the area.
  • Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques and methods.
  • Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on heavy equipment, diagnosing, maintaining, repairing and modifying systems such as transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy‑duty equipment.
Qualifications
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Flexibility: open to change and new information, adapts rapidly to changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems including design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Self‑Management: sets realistic goals, demonstrates initiative and effort, works with minimal supervision, and is motivated to achieve results.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A Alaska license required. Must pass a federal CDL drug and alcohol test and provide consent for records review.
  • Firearms or ammunition use may be required; applicants with a misdemeanor domestic‑violence conviction are ineligible.
