Mechanic I or II, Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Oiler
Under the direction of the Vehicles and Equipment Foreman, the Mechanic diagnoses, repairs and performs maintenance on various City equipment and vehicles. Tasks may include diagnosis and repair of engine components (to include overhaul), ignition, electrical and cooling systems, transmission work, and road testing. Specific job title, pay range and assignments are dependent upon skills, experience and abilities.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a recognized automotive apprenticeship program
- Three (3) years experience in vehicle maintenance and repair. Additional experience may be substituted for formal training
Depending on the position hired into, under the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this position is subject to mandatory drug testing per title 49 CFR, Part 40. All applicants must meet FMCSA pre-employment requirements prior to being allowed to perform safety-sensitive functions or operate (road test) a covered City vehicle.
