Your Role as a Counselor

Assist students in realistic self-appraisal.

Encourages the choice and successful completion of a scholastic program that is consistent with each students abilities and that will lead to the widest possible choice of post-high school opportunities.

Assist students in adjusting to the scholastic, social and personal demands of school.

Assists students in developing realistic vocational aims.

Aids teachers by providing those guidance services that make their efforts more effective.

Assists in evaluating the overall educational program and recommends changes and additions to the school curriculum.

Informs parents of their students progress, limitations, and abilities as evidenced in their school experiences.

Aids parents in the post-high school planning of their students.

Helps parents understand their children and their needs.

Oversees the administration of the school-wide testing program.

Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary for the proper operation of the guidance and counseling program.

A valid Alaska Type C Certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
A degree or certificate in school counseling
