Billing Specialist

Location: Bethesda, MD (Hybrid – 2 days onsite / 3 days remote)

Duration: 6-month contract with potential extension and/or conversion opportunity

Our client is seeking a Billing Specialist to join their finance team and support professional services billing operations. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented billing professional with experience managing invoices, accounts receivable processes, and contract-based billing requirements.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting professional services or government contracting environments, strong Excel skills, and the ability to collaborate with project teams, finance partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely billing.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely invoices for various contract types, including cost-plus, time and materials, and fixed-price agreements.
• Review and reconcile labor, expenses, subcontractor costs, and other billable charges.
• Ensure invoices meet contract requirements, documentation standards, and compliance guidelines.
• Maintain detailed billing records and supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews.
• Generate accounts receivable reports and assist with collections activities.
• Partner with project managers and finance teams to validate billable costs, funding status, and project information.
• Collaborate with accounts payable, payroll, and subcontract management teams to ensure accurate cost tracking.
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies while maintaining strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support process improvements and ensure billing workflows are efficient and accurate.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of billing experience, preferably within professional services, government contracting, or a similar environment.
• A minimum of 2 years of billing experience in government contracting or professional services using Deltek Costpoint.
• Experience with accounts receivable, invoice preparation, and billing reconciliation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting government contracting billing processes.
• Experience working with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP/accounting systems.
• Knowledge of contract billing requirements, indirect rates, cost structures, or compliance standards.
• Experience supporting audit preparation and maintaining documentation.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
• Hybrid schedule: 2 days onsite in Bethesda, MD, and 3 days remote.
• 6-month contract with potential extension and/or conversion opportunity.
