Overview

Job Description - FY27:
Para educator Level I (504), 2hrs + 1 hr LHA, Seven Locks ES, TPT (26004DE). This is a Temporary Part Time (TPT) position that does not include benefits. The wage range is between $18.00 per hour and an unspecified upper amount; final wage depends on factors including project nature, prior MCPS experience, and negotiated agreements.

Responsibilities
  • Assist students who are diploma-bound and/or have accommodations under Section 504 to promote mastery of grade-level or above curriculum.
  • Provide instructional and classroom management supports in general education settings or during pull-out sessions for individualized or small group instruction.
  • Perform related clerical tasks to support teachers and other professional staff in various classroom environments.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling and location; continue planned instructional activities during the teacher's temporary absence from the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
  • Ability to assist with instruction, monitor student behavior, and work effectively with children, young adults, and staff.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform required tasks; strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read/write/speak English and to support students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software (e.g., Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools).
  • Ability to learn and meet the seven SSPGS core competencies.
Education, Training, and Experience
  • Option 1:
    Associate’s degree required;
    Bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework should include at least nine credit hours related to education (e.g., behavior management, instructional strategies). One year of experience with students in structured educational settings preferred. If no related coursework, two to four years of applicable experience may be considered.
  • Option 2:
    At least 48 college credits and two years of experience in a structured setting (daycare, preschool, adult day program, after-school program, extended day, or school/non-school based departments).
  • Option 3:
    Two years of experience in a structured setting (as above). Successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher is required.
  • Option 4:
    Any combination of applicable education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills.
